Payroll Accounting Specialist

Location: Sioux Falls, SD

Tessier’s Inc., the Midwest’s premier mechanical contractor, has an immediate opening for the full-time position of Payroll Accounting Specialist. The Payroll Accounting Specialist will oversee all aspects of the company’s payroll activities including weekly payroll processing as well as payroll related processes and reporting requirements. Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, process, and review weekly payroll
  • During the weekly payroll ensure the correct calculations of regular pay rates (union and non-union), overtime, travel time, etc.
  • Lead the payroll aspects of on-boarding and termination processes
  • Complete and/or oversee all required state and federal reporting requirements such as 941 returns, SUTA returns, etc. and their corresponding payments
  • Complete certified payroll reports as required by certain construction projects
  • Along with the Assistant Controller and Chief Financial Officer, lead all human resource functions
  • Maintain payroll and human resource records
  • Provide payroll analysis and reporting and oversee special projects as needed

Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or associates degree in accounting or relevant field is preferred
  • A strong working knowledge of payroll processes and related requirements
  • Three to five years of payroll processing and human resource experience
  • Construction experience is preferred but not required

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of payroll processes and requirements including overtime, travel time, deductions, garnishments, etc.
  • Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and payroll best practices
  • Detailed oriented with strong organization skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer proficiencies in the Microsoft suite of products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with accounting staff, operational leaders, and senior leadership
  • Always demonstrate a leadership image
